Originally brought on as assistant, I eventually had to take full responsibility of art direction and styling for this quiet, intimate film which explores a newlywed girl navigating quiet control and expectations in a traditional but modern Pakistani household.
Visually, I leaned into warm tones like browns, oranges and greens mainly with soft diffused other colors, building a soft but emotionally loaded space. I used plants and cacti throughout the house to create a stillness and bring breath, freshness and life being held in suspension, mirroring the protagonist's emotional state. All that without breaking the realism. From forging exact degree certificates to mood-based set transitions, I tried to pour detail into every frame. I remember having to finish an entire 500 piece puzzle so fast, in such a time crunch on set, all that for just one shot of that prop lol.
Styling each character and designing each space, the kitchen, veranda, dinner table, breakfast table, garden, bedroom, lounge, it was all like slowly building the girl’s world from the inside, and I really loved being a part of that.
